136. www.niko.shrubbyart.com | Sat May 24, 8:44 PM

Can't wait to see this one! NY has a much tighter scene than southern california

135. buddy | Fri May 23, 1:52 PM

yo ligkufy-

thats sounds like your movie bro- go out and make it- you can tell us all about slalom, downhill and transportation skating- i am waiting on the edge of my seat! let me know when uts done--

134. ligkufy | Thu May 22, 12:20 PM

It seem the movie was about the evolution of street skating in NYC, not including downhill, slalom, or skateboardings advantage as a transportation device.
It seemed to omit any terrain made for skateboarding.
Is terrain made for skateboarding considered not real skateboarding or not evolved?

133. yo | Wed May 21, 7:37 PM

just a mention to 'JUST THE FACTS" guy (post #112)- did you not see the movie? because there is not only a mention of harold (also see the photo to your left) it says that he embodied the idea of skating in new york in the 90's! also keenan milton has loads of footage from the early 90's in the film- why would you pick out 2 skaters that were focussed on and say that they weren't in the film?

132. barney 1 | Tue May 20, 7:54 PM

I thought the movie was really good, included everything NYC could ask for and then some, trash can jumper and Kessler park bomb are classic scenes for sure.

131. Virtual SexBot | Mon May 19, 6:52 PM

you pencil dicks need to find a site for losers like yourselves. if ya didn't like it, post a real comment and leave your name, you buncha cowards. find some more websites and go suck some nutz...

130. buddy | Mon May 19, 10:56 AM

ahhhhhhh ha- a hater used lenny kirks name falsely- that's extra lame-

129. el | Sun May 18, 3:46 PM

where can we buy this vid?

128. dennis m. | Sat May 17, 1:25 AM

fyi lennie kirk is incarcerated in california so whoever wrote that is full of shit. or scared to write their real name.

127. Stephen Lavin | Fri May 16, 5:38 PM

Just found out about the film and I'm stoked. Andy, long time no see; hope all is well with you. Glad to see you in lights bro - you deserve it.

LAVIN (aka T O P S I D E R)

126. buddy | Fri May 16, 12:54 PM

glad to see that people are using the comments section- it is a good read- if you have seen the film and want to make criticisms (like lenny kirk) please do more than generalize about gross misrepresentations- how, what, who etc... did we miss? we talked to lots of people and tried to gt the main points of the story about the 90's era (the tipping point) so if we were so far off base it would be nice to know how and why- thanks again for all the posts good and bad- like i siad it is fun to read---

125. domenick | Wed May 14, 9:37 PM

I love all the west coast haters. all I have to say is try to come out east and skate, I bet you can't even push down the street let alone skate all of the sketchy shit that pros destroy. east coast skating is the rawest form of skateboarding. period.

124. Hazem | Wed May 14, 8:00 PM

Dude, Im psyched on watching this movie.
I cant wait.
L.A. is next maybe?
hopefully?

123. iching | Wed May 14, 1:20 PM

D2D was such a great experience. Like a generational family album, a story that just nips at all the fun and intricacies throughout the ages. Well done,. It’s a hard project to undertake and make coherent to the average joe. I think the older crew appreciates what you have done the most, in preserving the evolution in this great city. You don’t compare it to other cities. You just live it (again)....if you were part of it. The later crews are mumbling around with some petty stuff. It’s a lot of ground to cover, maybe more films should be made to get it all down. Whatever, I enjoyed it and I hope y’all did too!

122. Tony | Wed May 14, 11:32 AM

Cant wait to see it!!!!!!!!

121. peter giang | Tue May 13, 11:03 PM

120. james | Tue May 13, 6:13 PM

119. Hernandez | Mon May 12, 12:30 PM

Rick and Buddy, you guys did an outstanding job!
The movie brought back a lot of memories, and made me proud of everyone(you know who you are).
These dudes dedicated their own time to this project... I didn't see anyone else step-up do this for New York!
Well done men!!!

118. TONE | Mon May 12, 11:34 AM

I never skated in my life so from a completely outsiders perspective, I liked this movie. It was inspirational for me in many ways.

Oh, and I read a bunch of the comments below and it seems the haters have emerged as usual. I love haters. You should too. They motivate the fuck out of me.

Cuncerned, go make a better film and we'll happily review.

116. cuncerned | Sun May 11, 11:47 PM

history aside, there's so many stories, entertaining and what not that this flick misses...from that critical time during the 90's. fuck a script!

complete gloss over

115. knot cuncerned... | Sun May 11, 8:34 PM

'bout the his-story lesson sun...or tha spelling bee. Bee.
Just stick to tha script that you tried to write, right. Right???
Liked the flick tho... I took a lot of hard work, but now you have a lot more work to do. And you are soo well red... or is it read? The Manhattoe indian mention is Quite honorable!
Don't 4get to Capitalize.

114. not quite accurate facts | Sun May 11, 8:03 PM

thanks for the fact update. just wanted to give a few more ...

the manhattoe indians where actually here first, long before JEFFERSON (not JEFF) pang got here.

henry hudson brought the white plauge here in 1609. from that point on, this place that became manhattan, became what it is because of people brinnging their influence here from all over the world. thats what this town is built on. without that, it would be.... philadelphia.

we dont plan on dedicating this film to KEANAN milton. we do plan on including him in the dedication as KEENAN milton.

boros is spelled BOROUGHS

the film is not finished, but the screening was a good way to start a diologue about where to go with it.thanks for the facts though, but...

please check the facts before you lay them down.

i hope i spelled everything right.

113. Ronin635 | Sun May 11, 11:10 AM

Missed hearing about the NYC premiere by about a day. Hopefully someone will think to put some screening info up on the damn website in the near future. Big up to Cal, Ian, Bruno, Harry, Pepe, Steve and all the old Washington Square crew. Skate Hard or Die!

112. JUST THE FACTS... | Sun May 11, 10:39 AM

Fact # 1- The 90's gave birth to JEFF PANG, KEITH HUFNAGEL, MIKE HERNANDEZ, KEANAN MILTON, RYAN HICKEY,HAROLD HUNTER, CHRIS KEEFFE, PETER BICI.... They all "evolved" by turning pro and influenced putting NYC on the map.

Fact # 2-That was a golden era in NYC that will NEVER happen again.

Fact # 3- The post-90's individuals toward the end of this movie are not from NYC. These individuals moved to NYC, or skate in NYC. For obvious reasons. These individuals will NEVER embody the soul, style or dynamic energy that is born in the the "5boros". So there is no need for honorable mention in reference that part of NYC's post-90's "evolution".

Fact # 4-You must show some respect and dedicate, or at least mention our NYC skateboard legends- HAROLD HUNTER AND KEANAN MILTON.

This aint a diss, this is just the facts.

111. WORD. | Sun May 11, 9:48 AM

The 90's was a turning point in NYC

110. lennie kirk | Sat May 10, 12:33 PM

This movie was a gross misrepresentation of skating in the 90's. Where's the proper Sheffey footage? Why no mention of Keenan? Why the hell do we need the "ollie" explained yet again?

Praise Jesus!

109. Cragzop | Fri May 9, 8:27 PM

I'm 56 , born and raised NYC, and got my first board in 1966 from a family friend who had just come back from a trip to Cali....fast forward to now, and my 13 yo son skates here in upstate ny...he's black and blue and lives to sk8....props on the movie

108. p.rossi | Fri May 9, 7:18 PM

skate!

107. Jim Shezlick | Fri May 9, 4:10 PM

Why a movie on such a place with such a lame skate scene. I wish it was better. It's just not much of skate culture per capita and not for everyone.. mostly focused on underdeveloped street mentality. Back in the day NYC skaters got out of town to skate.. ie Cherry Hill etc.
I believe Joe Humeres was the first pro out of NYC after winning the NSA amateur championships in 89' and getting a contract with Walker skateboards. If not possibly or unofficially Jeremy Henderson.
and Pat Clark is in Nags Head NC.. Probably going to win the backyard bowl comp final there this weekend.
I still enjoyed the old stuff of the movie.

106. D B | Fri May 9, 3:41 PM

Great flick...everybody's got an opinion and feedback about this and that, but thanks for your efforts in putting this film together. For my generation of new yorkers that began skating in the mid 80's this was great to watch.

85. cj | Mon May 5, 3:45 PM

New York is one part of the skate scene, but the trailer for your film grabs more credit than is due. My buddies and I skated all over Honolulu in the early '70s. It would be entertaining to watch you make your Big Apple Number One claims to the dudes in Hawaii and in SoCal. Embarrassing.

I heard the poster design is looking pretty decent? Don't know about the film itself....hehehhe

72. Bill B. | Wed Apr 23, 12:05 PM

Everyone needs to chill. I can't even get through this board. Here's some feedback:

Long Island / Northport Pipeline and other parks: The film focuses on NYC. Long Island is not NYC. There's no footage of me skating the Taco Bell in Commack or you in Huntington.

The film: It'd be impossible to feature everything. Gathering footage in itself is a process and trimming it down is painful, but you can't put out a five hour movie and an eight disc box-set is out of the question for budget reasons.

This is not the complete history of skateboarding in NYC. It's a solid glimpse using key players who were available and footage people let them have.

For those bagging on the the skateboard scene outside of SoCal, try living somewhere else and appreciate how good you have it at home.

Sit tight. Wait for the movie to come out and then go from there.

This is my first and last post.

62. rick | Wed Apr 9, 6:47 PM

ok, i never blogged before....now i know why. just watch the movie when it comes out. you'll understand why its not safe to make judgements before you know what your talking about. as for skateboards on ebay? dont know, never been on ebay. keep snatching boards though ...hope you gotta cool looking collection of skateboards.

61. kevin | Tue Apr 8, 6:48 PM

I'm 12 years old. where are u Rick. way to go F.Y.L. you tell him! d.t. 4 ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rick, i read your letter to fyi? you are sensitive indeed! sounds like your protecting your image , or lack of, or your lying! Dick!

60. F.Y.L. | Tue Apr 8, 5:52 PM

Hey Rick (or is it dick?) maybe it's you who needs the history lesson. perhaps I was brainwashed by Skateboarder mag and the writings of C.R.S.!! or maybe I moved from N.Y.C. in 1973 to San Diego and immediatly noticed the differences in style and progression from east to west. I also understand that you are into 12 year old boys, but I can't help you out there. I happen to be 46 years young, so unlike yourself I don't often speak out my ass!! I'm interested in all sk8 docs and look forward to purchasing it. east is least.....west is (and always has been) best. It's not a cut-down. It's just well documented history. Texans and Floridians did as much or more than New Yorkers, anyway. any way (dick) you don"t deserve a history lesson. Oh, by the way, all those skateboards you keep bidding for on E-bay are being snatched up by me! good luck douchebag! god your soooooooooo sensitive!

59. Noname | Mon Apr 7, 12:41 AM

there used to be a vert skater from dallas named pat clark. his nickname was fat clark. when i first met pat smith all i could think of was fat smith. aren't you from maryland?

58. rick | Sun Apr 6, 2:21 PM

dear fyi- . dogtown forever dude! right on!.... thanks for the history lesson , clearly you have a better understanding of our story than we do... uh did you see it yet? wait, how can you critisize something you know nothing about.? kind of a george bush complex.... excuse me if your only 12 years old, it kind of sounds like you might be.

57. bud | Fri Apr 4, 7:56 PM

right on FYI- i think you may be interested in the other side of the story- things aren't always as they seem.......

cute rhymes too!!

56. F.Y.L. | Thu Apr 3, 7:58 PM

east coast never held a light compared to the west coast. west is best, east will always be least. east coast copied everything they saw happening on the "left-side" thru the glorious pages of Skateboarder Magazine. NYC scene got hot after street skating became the norm. i'm still interested in all skate docs, sooooo i will check it out!!!!! Dogtown forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (right, mr. muir?)

QUICK NOTE TO QUICK CRITICS >>>>>>> (pat smith included)

the film is not finished yet so be careful what you assume and how much negative critique you throw at us. also, this film is about skateboarding in new york CITY. we interviewed a wide range of people that skated in the city between 1975 to 2007 and the film is based on those interviews and what materials those people provided us. it is OUR general overview of the research that WE did, not about every person that ever stepped on a skateboard in new york. i would love to see the movie about a bunch of barnys skating around long island and upstate in the 80's...about as much as anyone would like to see a movie about my crew of barney freeks skaing around PA in the 80's.it was fun trust me, but better as a memory than public record.

we DO welcome your stories and short films about your barny scene in NY though. please send a quicktime file to ncpfilms@ncpfilms.com. we will open the film with it if we feel it is important enough to the history and development of street skating in NEW YORK CITY. please provide all credits, release forms for interviews and clearance rights for any music that you use. until then, all armchair critics can suck my nuts. thanks -rick

Dudes:
You guys blew it!
Why such a slanted view of NY skate?
What about the guys who made NY skate in the early days? (Chris Semore, Craig Achin, Luke Moore, Mouse, Kevin Cook). What about Fat Frank and the Kryptonics and Santa Cruz Team? What about Staten Island plexi park? Northport Pipeline, Huntington, Farmingdale and Plainview?
And even more recently, where's the 5Boro dudes? If anyone owns NYC skate today, it's them.

It's just the same old dudes telling the same old story. You guys had a GREAT chance to tell it like it is - AND YOU BLEW IT!
